2011 Keeps Pumping Out Snow… Feb 9, 2011

Hello and happy Wednesday everyone – hope all is well. Just like the last couple of days, we are still tracking extreme cold & snow, which will come to an end by the end of the week. The next 24 to 48 hours will continue to be active through the eastern 2/3rds of the nation.

Wintry Watches and Warnings

The storm track is a little farther south than it was before thanks to a shift farther south in that cold air. Instead of taking a turn north towards the New England States, like each storm has since Thanksgiving, this storm is going to shovel off straight east into the Outer Banks of the Mid-Atlantic States. Although the cold air can be a little unbearable at times, it is actually protecting the Northeast this time from more snow!

Snowfall Reports So Far…

There have been some impressive snowfall amount so far through parts of central Kansas. I saw a report of nearly 17″ just north of Wichita! Take a look at the interactive snowfall analysis map from the NWS HERE:

Snow Moves East

Snowfall rates continue to be impressive and should pile up decently though the middle Mississippi Valley through PM Wednesday/AM Thursday. However, the storm will pick up speed as it moves east of the Mississippi River through Thursday, limiting the snowfall amounts dramatically through the Tennessee Valley. The view from Alma, AR from earlier today showing moderate to heavy snow falling as visibilities hover around 1/2 mile to 1/4 mile.

Snowing in Dallas/Ft. Worth Texas Again…

Can you believe it?!? It’s snowing in Texas once again, for the 2nd week in a row. Last week, leading up to the Superbowl, we had a rare 3″ to 5″ around town. This time, snowfall amounts should be lighter, but still… give me a break Mother Nature! At the time the image was captured below, Dallas/Ft. Worth was experiencing Light Snow!

Fort Worth Texas National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth snapped the photo below of the light accumulation of snow earlier today and posted it on their Facebook page… You can follow the Ft. Worth, Texas National Weather Service on Facebook HERE:

So, How Much More?

The updated weather model guidance from earlier today show that the heaviest snowfall amounts will be confined to Arkansas and severely tapering east of the Mississippi River through tomorrow.

Temperatures Nationwide

Temperatures nationwide are quite chilly today! Look at the surge of Arctic air infiltrating the lower 48:

National High Temperature Map – Well Below Average!

High temperatures today around the nation are notably cold! In fact, high temperatures reaching the freezing mark or below stretches as far south as Texas today, which in some spots, is nearly 40F below average for this time of the year!

Light at the End of the Cold and Narrow Tunnel

Good news for those folks who can’t stand the burning, stinging cold temperatures… there is a modest warm up coming to a backyard near you by the weekend. In fact, most of next week look mild too! Many spots nationwide by the end of next week will have high temperatures near/above freezing for a change! Wahoo!!

Forecast High Temperatures for Next Tuesday

Forecast high temperatures for next Tuesday look quite a bit warmer nationwide, see for yourself:

Alrighty then… that’s all for today. We certainly appreciate you stopping by, making us a regular stop as you surf the web and scour the weather world online. Check back again tomorrow for more weather updates as the current snow system winds down. Have a good Wednesday!
