Earlier today, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo held storm briefings with senior administration officials in New York City and on Long Island on how powerful weather conditions are impacting the state.
Equipment was pre-deployed all over the state but especially on Long Island. The MTA/Long Island Rail Road, was able to store most of the equipment last night so there wasn’t a problem in terms of using the equipment this morning.
The state of New York purchased a large additional number of plows last year. Gov. Cuomo stated, “I was questioning at the time whether or not it was worth the expenditure but in retrospect I’m glad we did because they came in very handy on this storm.”
The governor directed state agencies to do early release for all non-essential personnel, and encouraged private businesses to consider doing the same.
After the briefing, the Governor stopped to help a stranded motorist on the Sprain Brook Parkway near Hawthorne, New York.
