A burst of heavy snow has been moving through portions of the Upper Midwest and is swinging into the Western Great Lakes. Winter Storm Warnings continue along the Lake Superior shoreline in Minnesota’s Arrowhead, parts of Northeast and Central Wisconsin and along Lake Michigan in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Snowfall totals may climb to 6″ in several areas, with cities near Lake Michigan in the U.P. seeing totals near a foot.
Where it isn’t snowing, it is windy. Sustained winds are near 30 mph, with higher gusts. Chicago and Detroit are under High Wind Warnings, with Wind Advisories from near the ArkLaTex into the Northeast.
Behind the wind and snow, cold temperatures will settle into the Northern Plains, Upper Midwest, and Western Great Lakes. Some areas in Minnesota and the Dakotas will struggle to climb above zero. Wind chills will be low as well.
