Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

Extremely hazardous air has been impacting the Eastern Seaboard as wildfire smoke pours south from Canada. Hazardous air quality has been shifting south and offshore from Wednesday into this Friday. While air quality is expected to improve for many areas today, linger unhealthy air quality is still possible.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/06-09 Smoke Map-1686309015997.jpg">An upper-level low with northerly flow is the culprit, bringing intense wildfire smoke but also cooler conditions and slightly unsettled weather in terms of showers this week. For specific city by city information on air quality in your area - please visit the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://fire.airnow.gov/">EPA's website</a>.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/06-09 AQ Map-1686309021635.jpg">The thickest (and unhealthiest amount) of smoke on Friday is focused around the DelMarVa and back north toward lake Erie. Most areas are expected to stay under the "unhealthy" air quality category, which is the category that greatly impacts most of the population with eye and lung irritants. People with respiratory issues still should limit time outdoors and should not be doing any strenuous activity outdoors.On Friday, the thickest smoke will be across the mid-Atlantic with some improvements toward NYC and New England. As a whole, Friday's air quality will be the best through the region of the last couple of days, but there will still be some smoke and haze in the air.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/2023-06-09 05-09-41-1686309032088.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The same cold front that helps usher in northerly flow also produced some rain and thunderstorms Thursday. Severe weather did take place across the DMV region early in the day Thursday, with large hail reported. Some thunderstorms produced hail up to half dollar size!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/2-1686256241067.png"> The low continues to hover along the I-95 corridor Friday, keeping the pattern the same--cool and cloudy with isolated showers and storms. Saturday the low edges into the Atlantic and pulls some of the moisture that direction too, leading to a drier afternoon through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Isolated showers are still possible through New England, but more spots will stay dry than get rain.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/2023-06-09 05-10-49-1686309078643.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Highs into the weekend will be below average but warming slightly as the upper level low providing cooler air pulls into the Atlantic Ocean. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

A few showers and storms will remain overnight along the frontal boundary and area of low pressure that produced scattered strong storms Thursday. The loss of daytime heating can help weaken storms, but some heavy rain will be possible. Gulf moisture has been enough to help trigger daily thunderstorms from the Upper Midwest and to the northern High Plains this week. A severe threat will continue Friday, when more severe storms can be expected across the central High Plains. Heavy rain, gusty winds and hail will all be possible.<h1>FRIDAY</h1>Moisture combined with a trough of low pressure will help increase the thunderstorm chances on Friday. There will be enough energy in the atmosphere to get some strong and severe storms rolling. The best timing will be in the afternoon and evening hours. Strong damaging winds of 60 mph or greater and isolated large hail will be possible. As this system moves south overnight, it should weaken.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/severe outlook friday-1686262080341.jpg">Friday morning starts out mostly dry, but daytime heating helps to spark up showers and thunderstorms. After a multi-day flood threat for the Great Plains is starting to wind down as energy now shifts towards the Gulf Coast of Texas. In Central Texas, thunderstorms produced large hail around the Interstate 35 corridor... Golf ball size hail fell in Bulverde! Winds also gusted as high as 67 mph in Texas City!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/slot0-1686256685032.jpg">Storms in Central Texas will continue to move towards the Gulf Coast overnight. Storms will be aided by a cold front dropping in from the north. This front is a more organized forcing mechanism and will start to switch up the nearly stagnant pattern we've been in across west Texas over the last few weeks. Although a few storms could still be strong, most will remain below severe limits overnight.Grounds are saturated in areas, increasing the flood risk around the metros. More strong storms are possible as a cold front moves through the Southeast Friday. This front produced isolated storms Thursday but a few were strong enough to produce gusty winds and hail in parts of Georgia and South Carolina.As the front dips to the south on Friday, more isolated severe storms are possible in southern Georgia and parts of Florida. Damaging wind and hail up to the size of quarters will be the main threats. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/06-08 SE SPC 2-1686228290081.jpg">A few showers are possible during the morning along the frontal boundary with activity become more widespread through the afternoon. A stubborn area of low pressure over the Southwest will slowly move north and weaken on Friday... Only to be replaced by another, stronger system coming into California this weekend (ABOVE). This means more storms, heavy rain and even some snow to the higher elevations.Pacific moisture will be pulled into the region, keeping rain chances elevated for the next few days. Expect heavy rain and an increased risk of flash flooding (especially within burn scars).<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/SW Futurecast-1686270462900.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Storms will be scattered, but 1-3" of rain is likely for spots that see storms for multiple days in a row. A few inches of snowfall will be possible over the central Sierra, too! A low pressure system will increase the risk for damaging storms this weekend in the Southern Great Plains, including the I-35 corridor from Dallas to Oklahoma City. Wind, hail, and tornado or two are possible, with the most impactful storms expected during the afternoon on Saturday. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has highlighted the risk of "significant" severe weather (above) on Saturday. It is thanks to a low pressure system that will move into the Southern Great Plains. Upper-level winds will increase to support more organized thunderstorms, including supercell thunderstorms delivering large hail. At the surface, dewpoints will surge in southerly flow while highs in the 90s provide plenty of instability for strong updrafts and severe thunderstorms.<h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/06-07 S PLains Moist-1686133107387.jpg">Friday</h2>The severe weather threat starts on Friday with a marginal risk west of the I-35 corridor, mainly in the TX/OK Panhandles down into central Texas. Wind and hail are the primary threats. There is a SLIGHT risk centered around western Kansas, the Oklahoma Panhandle and eastern Colorado for the HAIL threat.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/06/fri slight-1686246710808.jpg">Showers and storms start Friday afternoon around the TX/OK Panhandles and eastern New Mexico and Colorado. <h1>What to Expect</h1>Over the next few days, flood alerts are in place for parts of Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible as a system lingers over this part of the country. Heavy rainfall can lead to flash flooding, ponding on roadways and rising of streams, creeks and rivers. Rainfall totals can reach up to 4 inches of some places over the next 5 days. A moderate risk (level 3 out of 4) continues this overnight and shifts to the east for Friday in Montana. In the moderate risk, heavier rainfall rates can occur with the storms that develop. According to the WPC, there are a few areas of central MT over 90% saturated (based on NASA Grace imagery).
