More Heat in the South and West
Sizzling temperatures continue across the South and Southwest as the record heat expands into the Northwest this weekend. On Thursday, the hottest temperature ever was recorded in McAllen, Texas of 111 degrees. More records are likely to be set this weekend, especially in the Northwest. Heat alerts extend from Texas westward to the Pacific Ocean and northward to the Canadian Border.
A strong ridge of high pressure continues across the west, bringing in the oppressive heat. The dome of warmth will continue this weekend, shifting slightly to the west and north.
Highs today will soar into the 90s in the Pacific Northwest, with triple digit heat widespread in the Southwest.
On Saturday, Portland will approach the century point and Seattle near 90. Las Vegas and Phoenix will once again top 110 degrees.
