Another Week of Oppressive Temperatures in the West

26 Jun 2017, 4:48 pm

Oppressive heat continues in the Southwest with widespread triple digit temperatures around for another week. Las Vegas has seen 10 days of highs above 110 degrees. Excessive Heat Warnings have been issued for most of the rest of this week in the Southwest.

Temperatures climbed above 120 degrees Sunday in Death Valley and Palm Springs, setting record high temperatures for the date. Seattle climbed to 96 degrees, which ties the warmest June temperature on record.

A strong high pressure ridge in the upper levels of the atmosphere across the West has pushed the Jet Stream flow well north into Canada. The dome of high pressure keeps the mercury sizzling, with several readings again above the century mark today.

There is some relief in sight for the later this week. Temperatures have already started to cool in the Pacific Northwest. Readings in the Southwest will fall below 110 degrees Wednesday, staying in the low to middle 100s for the rest of the week.
