Excessive Heat Continues in the West

6 Jul 2017, 5:00 pm

Triple digit heat continues to build across the West and High Plains and several more days of oppressive temperatures are ahead. Record highs were set yesterday in Utah, Idaho, and South Dakota and more records will likely fall into this weekend.

Excessive Heat Warnings continue in the Desert Southwest where readings will be well above the century point. Heat Advisories remain in effect into parts of California, Arizona, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Montana.

The temperature may reach 120 degrees in Needles, California, with 110+ degrees common in desert areas of Nevada, California, and Arizona. Triple digit heat will push into a few areas of the Northwest.

Hotter highs are likely Friday in the Southwest, with record highs possible in Phoenix and Las Vegas. Needles may climb to 122. Highs well into the 90s are likely as far north as Montana.

The mercury will top the century point as far north as Billings on Saturday. The extreme heat will start to diminish into next week, but the hot highs will continue as temperatures remain well above normal.
