Sweltering Heat from the East Coast to the Plains

Heat alerts have been expanded through the Plains and along the Eastern Seaboard as sweltering temperatures continue from the middle of the nation to the Atlantic Ocean.

An Excessive Heat Warning continues in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas. High temperatures today will be well into the 90s, with some areas climbing above 100. The heat index will top out at 110 in a few cities.

Friday will see little improvement. The thermometer will hit above the century point and with dew points in the 70s, more heat indices of 105 to 110.

From the Ozarks into the Arklatex, 90s will be widespread with a few readings reaching 100. The heat index will climb to 100 to 105.

The mercury will be sizzling along the East Coast as well. With highs in the 90s today and Friday, the heat index will be 95 to 105.
