Heavy Snow for the Pacific Northwest into the High Plains

18 Dec 2017, 3:41 pm

A storm system entering the Pacific Northwest will bring a round of snow to the region, with heavy accumulations ahead for the mountains. Winter Storm Warnings continue for the Cascades and into northern Montana. Winter Storm Watches have been issued in North Dakota and for the higher elevations of southern Oregon and northern California. More than a foot of snow is possible to start this week in the higher elevations.

A front is draped across the Northwest, with a strong low pushing ashore from the Pacific Ocean. As the slow moving low brings moisture and energy into the region, snow will become heavy later tonight and into tomorrow. The low will move into the High Plains Tuesday night and Wednesday, spreading the snow further east into North Dakota. As a cold front pushes southward, snow is possible into the Sierra, Wasatch, Tetons, and Rockies.
