Active Tornado Weekend Destroys Homes, Kills One
Over 70 tornadoes tore through areas from Texas to South Dakota, leading to at least one fatality and widespread damage in several towns.
As many as 50 twisters touched down on Saturday, leading to one fatality in Cisco, Texas after an EF-3 tornado ripped through the small town to the east of Abilene. Several homes were damaged in the town as well.
Elsewhere, damage was reported in Delmont, South Dakota after an EF-2 tornado went through the town 90 miles west of Sioux Falls on Sunday morning. At least three people were injured, but South Dakota Emergency Management confirmed to WeatherNation that no life-threatening injuries were reported.
Later on Sunday evening, a tornado reportedly ripped off a high school roof in Lake City, Iowa from a tornado, and damage to homes in Van, Texas was also reported on Sunday evening.
Flash flooding continues to be a major concern for north Texas and southern Oklahoma. Corsicana, Texas recorded nearly six inches of rain in just two hours on Sunday night, and Oklahoma City has seen over 11 inches of rain this week alone, leading to major flood concerns in both areas. Numerous water rescues were reported in Denton County, Texas on Sunday as a result of high waters from flash flooding in the area.
