Another Major Snow Storm Ahead for the Northeast

15 Feb 2017, 2:22 pm

Another major snow storm is ahead for the Northeast, the third in only a week. Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for most of New England. The storm is already creating rough travel and additional driving issues will likely develop through the evening as snowfall increases over the region.

By Friday, a foot of snow may fall in parts of New Hampshire and Vermont. Accumulations of up to 6″ are possible from Eastern New York into Maine.

Parts of Down East Maine picked up more than 2 feet of snow earlier this week, on top of the foot that fell last week. Another 10″ could fall near the coast by Friday.

Massachusetts and Connecticut will see some snow, but with the position of the low pressure center and a surface trough, the heaviest will likely be farther north and east.

The low pressure center will spin over the region tonight into tomorrow, picking up Atlantic Ocean moisture and spilling it back into the cold air. This will once again squeeze out robust snowfall totals for New England. The snow will start to diminish by Thursday evening as the system spins out to sea.
