April Snowstorm to Slam Colorado Rockies,High Plains & More Over Weekend

04-15 graphicAfter several days of warm and spring-like weather across the state of Colorado and Wyoming, a rapid change in the weather is set to unfold overnight tonight.

A very mature and deep area of low pressure is traversing across the western half of the country bringing an immense amount of moisture and energy to the four corners region. This system will bring two very different weather scenarios to the area beginning this afternoon and lingering through much of the weekend.

The warm sector of this upper level low will prompt a few round of severe storms beginning this afternoon across the eastern sections of New Mexico, West Texas Panhandle, Panhandle of Oklahoma, Western Kansas and the eastern plains of Colorado.

The enhanced risk and slight risk area (orange and yellow shaded area) means that tornadoes will be possible alongside with the threat for damaging winds and large hail.

Front Range Snow Estimates Map
The cold sector will bring rapidly changing conditions to the forecast for Colorado and Wyoming by tomorrow morning. Showers and storms will begin tonight for Denver, CO and rain will change over to snow by tomorrow morning. The kicker with this system will be the slow-down of the low pressure machine as a blocking high pressure from the north will cause this system to sit and spin over Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming for a good 72 hours. This will be the concern as the already heavy and wet snow forecasted with begin stacking up quickly on trees, power lines, etc so its safe to say power outages across the area with the heaviest of snow could be quite the concern for many this weekend. Make sure you have the necessary items (non-perishable foods, batteries for flashlights, etc) to prepare for loss of power this weekend. Here is what we are looking at forecasted snowfall totals through Monday. Front Range Snow Estimates
