Lake effect snow bands continue to pummel portions of Western New York state downstream from Lake Ontario. Blizzard warnings remain in effect in New York near Oswego in the areas of the heaviest squalls. Winter Storm Warnings continue in Eastern Upper Michigan and Northern Lower Michigan for heavy snow bands off of Lake Superior.
More than a foot of snow has fallen in the lake effect snow belts in New York, and another foot could fall by Friday afternoon.
The strongest lake effect snow squalls will continue to spread from Lake Superior, across Lake Huron and curve down toward Lake Ontario. The band will continue to produce occasional snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches an hour. As temperatures warm aloft warm and the wind shifts direction ahead of the low pressure center in the Plains, the lake effect snow showers will diminish into Saturday.
