California Roasts In a September Heat Wave
While the attention has been on the East Coast and the slew of record high temperatures set over the last few days, California is currently suffering through its own astonishing September heat wave.
From the Bay Area south to San Diego, coastal areas and inland valleys alike have been under heat advisories and excessive heat warnings Tuesday andWednesday with inland temperatures expected to approach 105 in many inland locations. Five locations throughout the Golden State set record highs Tuesday, including Oakland, Monterey, and Salinas; each reaching at least 95 degrees.
Unlike the East Coast, which is forecast to cool off to near normal temperatures on Thursday, many locations in California are expected to remain in the 90s or 100s through at least Saturday, or longer, as a massive ridge builds over the region in the next few days.
For meteorologists, summer ended in August, but for Californians, summer is still going strong.
