California Wildfire Death Toll Rises to 40

15 Oct 2017, 11:53 am

The fires across California have been blazing for over a week now with now 15 large active fires across the state.

Those fires have killed at least 40 and destroyed 5,700 structures.

The good news is some people have been allowed to return to their homes. As of Sunday morning, nearly 75,000 people remain evacuated. That number is down from the 100,000 people on Saturday.

More than 10,000 firefighters are working to contain these flames amid improving wind conditions. Winds will be decreasing Sunday but still breezy, especially in southern California.

Here is a list of the largest fires across the states that fire fighters continue to try to contain.
