Coast Guard Rescues Dogs, Passengers From Stricken Sailboat in Lake Michigan
The Coast Guard rescued three people and two dogs from a demasted sailboat beset by heavy weather about one nautical mile offshore from Wilmette, Illinois, on October 22.
The 37-foot sailboat was demasted and unable to make headway back to harbor as strong winds swept Lake Michigan.
Strong winds continued in the forecast Tuesday with wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour expected.

The National Weather Service says that waves up to 36 feet are expected for the Great Lakes.

The winds and waves will begin to subside by late Tuesday evening.
