Cold Air Brings Snow to the Great Lakes and Appalachians

6 Apr 2017, 5:12 pm

A plunge of cold air dropping across the Great Lakes and Appalachian Mountains is bringing a round of snow to the region. Winter Weather Advisories continue for 3″ to 6″ of accumulations into Friday near Lake Huron and Lake Erie, as well as in the mountains from Pennsylvania to North Carolina.

A cold wind is driving into the region as well. High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories continue across a dozen states from the Canadian Border to the Atlantic Ocean. Gusts above 60 mph may occur.

The low pressure center that brought severe thunderstorms across the area is weakening and moving into the Northeast. As it pulls down cold air from the North, wrap around precipitation behind the system will fall as snow. By Friday night, the low will move out into the Atlantic Ocean and the snow will diminish.
