Temperatures will be mild in the High Plains for the Thanksgiving, but a cold front approaching from the north will bring some strong and dangerous winds by Thursday afternoon. High wind watches and warnings have already been issued for the potential of wind gusts over 60 mph.
Windy Weather Set-Up
A cold front will interact with some very warm November air and increase the rain chances as well as the wind speeds. There could even be a light wintry mix chance behind the cold front for Friday. That could impact anyone planning on doing some Black Friday shopping.
Severe Weather Threats
Here are some of the weather threats that will result from this wind event.
-Power outages due to downed trees and tree limbs.
-Low visibility over the mountain passes due to heavy snow.
-Dangerous travel conditions for high profile vehicles.
