Dangerous Night Time Tornado Outbreak Hits Midwest
Tuesday’s Severe Weather across portions of Illinois, Iowa resulted in 11 preliminary tornado reports. So far today, 2 Tornadoes have been confirmed, most notably, the EF-2 Tornado that ripped through the rural areas of East Moline, IL.
NWS Quad Cities/Davenport estimates approximately 40 homes damaged in a nearby neighborhood, also another 4 homes completely destroyed in rural East Moline. Estimated Winds for an EF-2 is Max Winds of 111 – 135 mph. The NWS Survey Team estimated a peak wind of 130 mph. It was reported that this tornado was on the ground for approximately 4.8 miles and maintained a width of about 200 yards while on the ground. 10 minor injuries were also reported
NWS Quad Cities/ Davenport also surveyed minor tree damage in McCausland, IA where they also reported an EF- 0 (est winds: 65 -85 mph) Tornado touched down for a very brief period of time.
