Death Toll Rises in Haiti Thursday

On Thursday, the death toll rose as the water levels began to recede after Hurricane Matthew pummeled the area. Officials are saying that at least 264 people have been killed, and this number is expected to rise as the hardest hit areas are searched.

Hurricane Matthew made landfall in the country’s southwest peninsula as a category 4 hurricane, with sustained winds of 145-mph. This is the first category 4 storm to hit Haiti in more than a half a century.
