Devastating and Dangerous Louisiana Flood Continues – 7,000+ Rescued

Residents of southern Louisiana have been hard hit by historic flooding. Many rivers such as the Amite, the Comite, and the Tickfaw reached new record levels on Sunday.

According to Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards, more than 7,000 people were rescued from the floodwaters by late Sunday morning.  Over 1,700 National Guardsman have assisted in helping residents get to safety. More than 5,000 people were taking advantage of the parish rescue shelters and Red Cross shelters that were open.

There are still many people reportedly stranded, including over 1,000 cars stuck on Interstate 12. Food, water, and supplies were dropped by air to assist those motorists stranded on the highway. Stay tuned to WeatherNation online and on air for the latest updates and forecasts for the Gulf Coast.
