ENHANCED RISK – Severe Weather for the Midwest

Severe thunderstorms are likely today and into tonight from parts of Texas Northeastward toward the Ohio River Valley. The storms will initiate from a cold front that is currently moving west, stretching from Des Moines, Iowa to Northern Texas. These storms will produce damaging wind, hail and a few tornadoes.

A tornado watch has been issued for portions of Southeast Iowa, Western Illinois and Northern Missouri, in effect from 1 PM till 8 PM CDT. Remember a tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. A few tornadoes are likely with these storms with a possibility of a very large tornado. Winds will also be likely with up to 75 MPH wind gusts. Scattered large hail with isolated hail up to 2.5 inches in diameter are possible.

A tornado watch is also in effect from 1:50 PM till 11:00 PM for Northern and Central Illinois, Far Northwest Indiana, Far Southern Wisconsin and Lake Michigan. A few tornadoes are likely with this storm with a chance of intense tornadoes. Wind gusts up to 80 MPH and large hail up to 2.5 inches are also possible.
