Excessive Heat Continues into the Weekend from the Plains to the East
A strong ridge of high pressure located over the center of the country is bringing excessive heat again to the Plains today, with the hot temperatures spreading across the Ohio Valley to the East Coast. Seven states are under Excessive Heat Warnings, with more than a dozen seeing Heat Advisories continue.
In the Plains, Excessive Heat Warnings include Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. The mercury will reach well into the 90s today and Saturday with many areas climbing above the century point.
With dew points into the 70s, the heat index will reach the triple digits. A few cities may see a heat index of more than 110.
Heat Advisories extend southward into the Arklatex and Mississippi Valley. High temperatures in the 90s to around 100 degrees will push the heat index above 100.
An Excessive Heat Warning continues around Philadelphia as the heat index will reach 100 to 105. A Heat Advisory including New York City, Baltimore, Washington D.C. and most of the Middle Atlantic. The heat index will reach 105 to 110 in several cities.
