A line of powerful storms swept through the Midwest Tuesday afternoon. In Iowa, a brief tornado was observed by an emergency manager in a farm field just north of Folletts.

Across Illinois, multiple tornadoes were reported by storm chasers. Around 5 p.m. local time Tuesday, a tornado spotted in LaSalle, Illinois. Along with the tornadoes, there were reports of baseball-sized hail falling. The tornado near LaSalle killed at least one person, according to local officials.
The LaSalle County Nursing Home in LaSalle, Illinois, sustained significant damage due to a likely tornado.
Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner Tweeted Tuesday evening that the Emergency Operations Center in Springfield has been activated after reports of tornado touchdowns in several communities.
