Wednesday afternoon a brush fire southwest of Denver prompted dozens of homes to be evacuated. The “North Turkey Creek” fire started at about 1 pm and is reported to be 100 percent contained. The fire started along Highway 285 near Aspen Park and grew to approximately 6 acres. Highway 285 was closed in both directions but has since been reopened. The fire was out by 3:15 pm mt. thanks to quick work by between 30 to 40 firefighters.
Red flag warnings for high fire danger continues for through Thursday for a large area that includes sections of Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Nebraska and Kansas. Dry fuels, warm temperatures, low relative humidity and gusty winds will keep the fire danger elevated into Thursday evening.
