The fires I mentioned last week did indeed flare up. Latest reports place a total of 113 homes damaged in Yorba Linda by the freeway complex (note: L.A. Times story).
Winds over the weekend reached near hurricane strength and relative humidities plummeted as mentioned last week, creating prime fire conditions for the region. A total of three fires flared, with the Santa Barbara fire now nearly under control, with a raging battle still ongoing in Anaheim Hills.
Latest reports show that so far a total of nearly 36,000 acres of land have been destroyed, 987 total homes destroyed, 38 firefighters injured in the battle, with 26,000 ordered to evacuate orange county (source: L.A. Times front page).
Red Flag warnings have been canceled for the area at the time of this writing. The HAMweather forecast for Lorba Linda and the surrounding communities is the standard for this time of year; warm, sunny, and basically a wonderful Mediterranean climate. From highs in the 80’s today and tomorrow, with highs in the mid-70s from the middle of the week until the end of time =) with evening lows in the mid 50’s.
