Heavy rain pounded the Houston area earlier, producing flash flooding in parts of the metro area. Cars were seen submerged in water. Many roads were impassable and had to be closed for several hours.

Underpasses quickly filled with water as the heavy rain moved through. City streets and low-lying areas saw flash flooding as well.
More than 6″ of rain fell in just a few hours. Soils quickly saturated producing significant runoff and storm drains were overwhelmed with too much water. Water has been slow to drain in some areas and roads are still closed. Flood warnings were extended into the afternoon.
More showers and thunderstorms are possible tonight as a stalled out front is located along the Texas Coast. The front will start to move to the east overnight and rain chances will diminish.
Additional rainfall amounts could reach to 2″ to 3″ in some of the heaviest storms tonight. Flooding is possible again if the storms travel over the same water soaked areas.
