DENVER CO, WeatherNation Affiliate KUSA – Extreme weather combined with extreme frustration made weekend travel a nightmare for some Denver International Airport travelers.
Airlines canceled more than 450 flights Saturday out of 1,500 due to the heavy snow. The airport says it was blindsided by nine inches of snow – triple what they expected.
People flying Frontier Airlines reported waiting long hours in line, missing baggage and hours-long delays on on the tarmac.
Jim Faulkner with Frontier Airlines says the issues were part of a ripple effect due to weather in Denver. He apologized to the customers affected on Monday.
The priority for the airline Monday is to reunite customers with their baggage.
“We suggest that customers fill out a bag claim form on-line and submit it that way. We also have paper copies at DIA. We’ve brought in extra help to help process all these requests,” he says.
About 70 percent of Frontier flights experienced a delay system-wide over the weekend with 275 canceled flights for Frontier.
“We had large numbers of [crews] who were stranded outside of Denver over the weekend, and many were scheduled to operate flights from Denver to somewhere else. In some cases, we had a plane but no crew to fly it because of the weather,” Faulkner said.
All these peoples flights got canceled by frontier at DIA. The video goes on for another 30s but I cant share the whole thing #frontiersucks pic.twitter.com/3ge2UniATF
