Frost and Freeze ahead for The Plains
The trees are changing color and the growing season is coming to an end in several areas of the Plains and Front Range. A strong cold front surging southward coupled with a cold area of high pressure centered in Colorado will bring frosty conditions to much of the region. Frost and freeze alerts extend across a dozen states in the center of the country.
Earlier this morning, temperatures tumbled in the High Plains and Front Range into the 30s. The cold air will continue to push southward tonight, spreading the frosty readings from the Upper Midwest into the Southern Plains. Temperatures will fall below freezing for the first time this year in many areas, with some spots seeing a hard freeze in the 20s.
On Wednesday morning, the cold air will still be located over the region, but readings won’t be as chilly. Most low temperatures will settle into the middle 30s and 40s.
