Hurricane Gert strengthened to a Category 2 hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean Wednesday afternoon. The hurricane is on a fast pace to the northeast around 31 mph.
Here’s a look at Gert from the GOES-16 satellite. It is expected to weaken as we get into the end of the workweek.
If it stays on the current track, Gert is forecast to become a tropical storm before the weekend. It continues to pose no immediate threat to the United States.
We will continue to see swells impact parts of the Atlantic Coast through Thursday. A High Surf Advisory is in effect as dangerous surf and rip currents are possible.
