Tuesday morning in the city of Fukuoka, Japan, a giant sinkhole swallowed a large section of road, which was near an underground work area to extend a subway tunnel.
The sinkhole started off as two small holes, before merging into one 27 meter wide hole. Nearby residents were evacuated, and five major roads were blocked off. The massive sinkhole cut off power, water, and gas supplies to parts of the city.
The sinkhole may have been triggered by underground construction work. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.
