Harvey’s Remnants Spawn Damaging Tornadoes Thursday

31 Aug 2017, 5:09 pm

There have been at least eight reports of tornadoes across three states so far Thursday. Some tornadoes have caused damage, for instance in Alabama where there are reports of four people being taken to a hospital after the storms rolled through.

A tornado was reported in Reform, Alabama, about 90 miles west of Birmingham, at 3:42 p.m. cdt Thursday. For the next 45 minutes, 4 more tornado reports came in from this same storm as it moved west of Fayette, Alabama. Mainly tree damage was spotted but debris was also reported in the air at times.

A tornado watch was issued at the time, and it continues through 8 p.m. Central Time Thursday. That means additional tornadoes remain possible in the watch area.

The remnants of Harvey continue to move northeast through Friday bringing this tornado threat, but also a flooding impact (especially in Tennessee and Kentucky).
