Hazardous Beach Conditions For Michigan On Wednesday

27 Sep 2017, 7:00 am

Dangerous weather conditions are in the forecast Wednesday for some Lake Michigan and Lake Huron beaches.  Northwest winds behind a cold front will be strong enough to help contribute to hazardous beach conditions through Wednesday evening.

The highest swim risk will be for Lake Huron beaches of Cheboygan and Presque Isle Counties.  Lake Michigan beaches of NW Lower Michigan from Leelanau County Southward are also looking at a high swim risk. These are the areas where life-threatening waves and currents are expected.  The rough weather is also expected for the northern shoreline of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Small Craft Advisories are in effect for Lake Michigan’s eastern showers and Lake Huron’s western shores through Wednesday night. A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots are expected to produce hazardous wave conditions to small craft. Inexperienced mariners…especially those operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions.
