Heat in the West and Plains This Weekend

2 Jun 2017, 4:37 pm

Heat has been building through the High Plains and West over the last few days and the warm temperatures will continue into this weekend. Several record highs fell in Montana, Wyoming, North and South Dakota yesterday with highs in the 80s and 90s. Fargo and Bismarck have already broken record highs today with the mercury climbing well into the 90s.

A strong area of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere is pushing the Jet Stream northward. This is helping the heat build from the Southwest through the Rockies into the High Plains.

It won’t be as warm tomorrow in the High Plains, but the thermometer will still reach into the 80s. The 90s and triple digit heat will be found in the Four Corners and Southwest.

High pressure will continue in the West on Sunday, as the warmth builds northward. 90s will be possible once again into Montana and Wyoming.
