Heavy Rain Concerns Continue in the Southeast
Heavy rain has been soaking the Southeast and the potential for flooding continues today. Record rainfall occurred yesterday in Jackson, Kentucky and New Iberia, Louisiana. Heavy rain also fell in Alabama and Florida.
Since Sunday, parts of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas has seen more than 3″ of rain. On Tuesday in Southwest Florida, more than 7″ fell south of Naples, producing flooding.
Flash Flood Warnings continue in Collier County, Florida into this afternoon. Local law enforcement reported water beginning to enter structures in Everglades City with numerous roads closed. Up to 10 inches of rain has fallen in some areas with additional rainfall through tonight. 3″ to 6″ of rain is possible in Northern and Central Florida, where a Flood Watch in effect.
A cold front will remained stalled over the Southeast throughout the day. A rich feed of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will push over Florida. Southwest winds will bring high humidity, leading to heavy rainfall and potential flooding.
