Heavy Snow Ahead for the Plains
A strong low pressure center is producing heavy snow in portions of the Northwest and will push into the Plains and Western Great Lakes this weekend. Winter Storm Warnings have been issued from Montana and Wyoming eastward to Wisconsin. Snowfall totals could easily reach a foot in the heaviest band and higher elevations.
Travel will become difficult along many major interstates due to the heavy snow. Occasional gusty winds will create some blowing and drifting snow with low visibility due to the light, fluffy accumulating snow.
The snow will begin to spread from the Front Range into the Upper Midwest Friday afternoon and evening. As the low tracks eastward, the heavy snow will spread into the Western Great Lakes late Friday night into Saturday.
