Heavy Snow Continues in the Northeast

10 Mar 2017, 10:15 am

A round of heavy snow continues to fall throughout the Northeast, creating slow travel along the coast. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2″ an hour are possible in the heaviest snow bands. Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect from Cape Cod through coastal areas of Rhode Island. Winter Weather Advisories continue for the rest of the region for lighter snowfall accumulations.

Accumulations are approaching 5″ in parts of Pennsylvania. Areas in New England have already seen 1″ to 3″ of snow with more ahead throughout the day.

Snowfall totals will be in the 4″ to 8″ range from Eastern Long Island to Cape Cod. Areas north of New York City may see 6-8″, with lighter totals expected across the rest of the region.

The heaviest bands of snow are expected over the next few hours along the coast as the low pressure center is starting to push out into the Atlantic Ocean. As the low continues to move away from the Eastern Seaboard, snowfall will diminish later this afternoon and evening.
