Heavy Snow Possible This Weekend in Maine

25 Nov 2016, 8:08 pm

A slow moving upper-level low pressure system coupled with a surface low moving through the Atlantic will help to bring significant snow to parts of Maine this weekend. With plentiful moisture moving in from the Atlantic Ocean and cold temperatures aloft, as much as 15″ of snow is possible in the highest elevations above 3000 feet in the Baxter State Park area.

Above 1200 feet, 4″ to 8″ of snow is possible, with 5 to 10″ above 1500 feet. The National Weather Service in Caribou has issued Winter Weather Advisories through Sunday morning.

Snow was already starting to develop in the late afternoon Friday and will become heavier into Saturday. The snow won’t diminish until later into Sunday. The snow will be heavy and slushy, likely to cause travel issues.
