High Surf and Gusty Winds Along the California Coast

9 Nov 2016, 2:02 pm

A strong offshore flow in California is leading to high waves along the coast. Our own WeatherNation Field Correspondent Ben McMillan has been reporting live from La Jolla Cove along the Pacific Ocean showing waves crashing ashore.

Ben filed this report earlier this morning and also spoke with the National Weather Service in San Diego regarding the high waves and rip current potential.

You can watch Ben’s reports live on WeatherNation throughout the day. High Surf Advisories continue for much of Coastal California, with interior areas under Wind Advisories.gale1 gale2 wind

Seas have been climbing throughout the day, with some buoys showing heights to 20 feet. Large swells will continue to crash into the coast.

The high surf is expected to last through the weekend, with rip currents a concern. Sustained winds of 20-30 mph are possible, with gusts to 40 mph.

The warm easterly Santa Ana winds will keep temperatures above average and the weather dry right into next week.
