Hurricane Eugene Forms

Quickly gaining strength Saturday, Tropical Storm Eugene became Hurricane Eugene.

The storm statistics for Eugene when it strengthened to hurricane status late Saturday.

Eugene is located in the eastern Pacific Ocean and is moving steadily to the northwest.  Eugene is expected to strengthen a little more before weakening early this week.  Right now the storm is over warm ocean waters but will move across colder waters with time, thus causing the weakening.

The forecast path for Eugene shows the most likely path (middle with icons) and the intensity of the storm. By late this week it is expected to weaken to a depression.

Hurricane-force winds extend up to 25 miles from the center of Eugene.  Tropical-storm-force winds extend up to 80 miles from the center.  Eugene is not expected to produce any hazards to land.

Eugene is the fifth named storm for the (eastern) Pacific hurricane season.
