Quickly gaining strength Saturday, Tropical Storm Eugene became Hurricane Eugene.

Eugene is located in the eastern Pacific Ocean and is moving steadily to the northwest. Eugene is expected to strengthen a little more before weakening early this week. Right now the storm is over warm ocean waters but will move across colder waters with time, thus causing the weakening.

Hurricane-force winds extend up to 25 miles from the center of Eugene. Tropical-storm-force winds extend up to 80 miles from the center. Eugene is not expected to produce any hazards to land.
