Hurricane Preparedness Week: May 7-13, 2017
Hurricane season is right around the corner, so NOW is the time to prepare.
Tropical cyclones are among nature’s most powerful and destructive phenomena. If you live in an area prone to tropical cyclones, you need to be prepared. Even areas well away from the coastline can be threatened by dangerous flooding, destructive winds and tornadoes from these storms.
Hurricane preparedness week is Sunday, May 7 through Saturday, May 13. NOAA, the National Hurricane Center, and various emergency management leaders developed this week-long campaign as a way to help residents in hurricane prone regions prepare and plan for possible impacts of a tropical cyclone. Each day through the week, one topic is covered to help you and your family get prepared for the upcoming tropical season.
Hurricane season starts May 15th for the Pacific Basin
Hurricane season starts June 1 for the Atlantic Basin
Here at WeatherNation, we are dedicated to your safety and preparedness for weather events. Look for live coverage throughout the week as we get prepared together.
Also, watch Wednesday, May 10, as our own John Van Pelt heads to Raleigh, North Carolina for the Hurricane Awareness Tour to talk with hurricane experts. John will also take us all on an up close and personal tour of one of the Hurricane Hunter airplanes and meet the pilots who fly into the storms to gather data.
