IMAGES: Lethal Pileup Shuts Down I-90 in Ohio

i90A multi-vehicle accident involving passenger-vehicles and tractor-trailers resulted from snow packed and icy conditions caused by lake effect snow resulting in the shutdown of I-90 in Lake County, Ohio, on Wednesday afternoon.

Fox 8 in Cleveland reported multiple fatalities.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported on their Facebook page:

Interstate 90 westbound at the 204 mile marker (near Vrooman Rd) is closed due to a multiple vehicle accident involving cars and tractor trailers. Early reports that have come in are reporting vehicles off the road and trapped under other vehicles, injuries, as well as a possible explosion. Units are in route from the Sheriff’s Office and Ohio Highway Patrol. Although the road has not been officially closed, it will be. All traffic will be diverted if possible and we are recommending that everyone find an alternate route of travel.
