Increased Flooding Risk Due to Heavy Rain Across Upper Midwest
Multiple rounds of heavy rain are possible tonight through Thursday across the upper Midwest. 2 to 3 inches of rain will be likely for many areas, with localized amounts up to 7 inches possible where storms cross the same areas. This could result in flash flooding and significant rises on rivers and lakes. The heaviest rainfall amounts are likely to fall across east central/southeast Minnesota into west central/southwest Wisconsin.
The first round of rain will move across southern Minnesota, western Wisconsin and northeast Iowa this evening. Up to 2 inches of rainfall is possible during this round of storms. The second round will occur Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening. An additional 1 to 3 inches is expected during this time-frame.
A flash flood watch has been issued for the areas expecting the greatest possibility of flash flooding. This will be in effect from now, through Thursday evening. Continue to watch WeatherNation for the latest updates.
