Iowa University to Offer Free Counseling to Flooded Families
Starting Monday, Mount Mercy University’s Olson Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic (located at 1650 Matterhorn Dr. NE, Cedar Rapids) will offer free counseling services to community members affected by the flood.
Services are available during the clinic’s regular business hours: Monday-Friday, noon to 9 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.
The clinic will be open Monday, Sept. 26 and Tuesday Sept. 27 despite class cancellations on those days.
Access to the clinic, which is housed in Mount Mercy’s CRST International Graduate Center, is limited due to flooding. Easiest access to the facility can be gained by traveling south on Wenig Road NE, from Cold Stream Avenue or Glass Road.
“Mental health can be as impactful as physical health for many people and this is a particularly challenging time for those affected by the flooding,” said Dr. Jacob Christenson, Clinical Director for the Olson Clinic. “The staff and student counselors at the Olson Clinic want to help however we can. This is our way of giving back and helping the community deal with this tragedy.”
