Irma Strengthens to Category 3 Hurricane

Irma has strengthened to a category 3 hurricane.

Irma is the 9th named storm of the 2017 Atlantic tropical season.

The storm is currently moving west-northwest at 12 miles per hour. It has a minimum central pressure of 967 mb and maximum sustained winds of 115 mph.

The National Hurricane Center  is forecasting Irma to become a category 4 east of the Leeward Islands next week.
