The lake effect snow machine will abruptly crank up again this weekend as a series of cold fronts pass through.
The first event will take place early Saturday morning where winter weather advisories and warnings are in effect.
Locations downwind of the Great Lakes will receive several inches of snow by Saturday afternoon.
A large dip in the jet stream across the eastern United States has opened the flood gates of Arctic air. A series of cold fronts will bring reinforcing shots of cold air to the eastern United States, each triggering lake effect snow.
Although cities around the Great Lakes will not drop down to record territory, the air mass will be just cold enough for lake effect snow.
A significant lake effect snow event may develop downwind of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario early next week where over a foot of snow may fall. Some communities may even experience thunder-snow like Buffalo, NY did earlier this week. Take a listen below!
