Lake Effect Snow This Weekend for the Great Lakes

27 Jan 2017, 2:16 pm

Lake effect snow is underway in the Great Lakes and will continue through this weekend. Lake Effect Snow Warnings and Advisories extend around the Great Lakes from New York to Upper Michigan.

Driving conditions in the snow belts in New York could be difficult at times due to the heavy snow squalls. Areas from Buffalo to Rochester and Watertown will be affected by the snow.

Two to three feet of snow is possible in the heaviest bands in Upstate New York. Lighter totals are expected across the rest of the Great Lakes.

Several surface features will move through the Great Lakes, enhancing the snowfall as the cold air plunges over the warmer waters. A surface trough will provide extra lift for snow tonight and Saturday.

On Sunday, a cold front will move across the Great Lakes. This will keep the lake effect snow machine going with additional snow, heavy at times.
