Overall warmth is in the latest long term forecast from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center (CPC). The 90 Day forecast was issued earlier this month and covers the period from October to December. It calls for above average temperatures throughout most of the nation, especially in the Northeast and Four Corners region. Cooler than normal conditions are not anticipated. Drier than average weather is in the forecast in the Southeast and Mississippi Valley with above normal precipitation for the Northwest.

This outlook was based primarily on decadal trends, forecast model guidance, statistical tools and the possible influence of a La Nina. The CPC states that the current phase of neutral temperatures in the Pacific Ocean may be ending, as some cooling has been observed over the last four weeks. Earlier this month, the CPC issued a La Nina watch.
