The Latest on the Southern California Wildfires
Here’s the latest on the California wildfires as of 9 pm MT on Friday.
Air quality remains a concern across Southern California, as smoke continues to be pushed into surrounding communities.
The Thomas Fire in Ventura County continues to expand, increasing to 143,000 acres burned and remaining at 10% containment. So far, more than 400 structures have been destroyed and 15,000 remained threatened.
The containment for the Creek Fire in Los Angeles County increased to 70% Friday night, with 15,619 acres burned.
High pressure will remain in place through the weekend, continuing to bring gusty winds to the area through Sunday. There will be a lull in the winds Friday night into Saturday before they increase again Saturday through Sunday morning. Extreme fire danger remains through the end of the weekend with very dry conditions combined with the gusty northeast winds. This makes it the longest Santa Ana wind event so far this season.
