Massive Storm Brings Destructive Tornadoes and Crippling Blizzards

A strong low pressure system raced through the Plains Tuesday. That brought blizzard conditions and snarled travel along major interstates. However, on the warm side of the storm, tornadoes developed and ripped through communities. Minor injuries were reported, however numerous homes and businesses were destroyed. The Storm Prediction Center was showing nine reports of tornadoes from Mississippi to Alabama. The strongest being an EF-2 with winds from 111-135 mph.


The line of shower and storms will continue to push through the east coast Wednesday afternoon, most of it moving off shore tonight.

The risk for severe storms has lessened to a marginal risk from Richmond, Virginia to Tallahassee, Florida. However, a concern for isolated tornadoes and flooding continues. Rainfall could amount to one to two inches of additional accumulation, with localized heavier amounts. Behind that, cooler air moves in.
